True or False - One is fabrication
by Steve Berry - Tuesday, 2 May 2017, 12:58 PM

Hi I’m Steve.

Story 1:

I’m 62 years old and I have been married for 42 years. I have two boys, the oldest of which is 40 and he is getting married on Saturday.

Story 2:

I have visited the UK Houses of Parliament, had a personalised guided tour of the Houses by a real Lord, before being wined and dined in the Lords private dining room.

Story 3:

Due to my experience with policing, I have appeared as an extra on a number of occasions in an English soap.

Hallo Steve!

I think the lie is number 3, isn't it?

Hello Steve,

Difficult choices! I wonder whether story 2 is true.

Maria

Hi Steve,

Hmm .... I agree with Maria on this that the second story is partially false, can't imagine a British Lord doing guided tours and then definitely can't see anyone that's not a Lord being invited into the Lords private dining room. But I could be wrong...

Hi Steve,

All you stories can be false, two your stories can be true, one story can not be true. Which one? Helen

Hello Steve,

Pretty interesting stories. But I guess, third story is untrue. Because your profile in policing and appearing in English soap doesn't gel together. I have my doubts though, (it could be the second story ). smile

Hi Steve,

I think story #1 is not true. You married at age of 20 but your son is getting married at age of 40. I mean his marriage age is double yours...For true story looks like  too fabricated numbers.

PS. It's been a lot of changes in England lately but hard to believe that English Lord guides a tours in parliament and share his dinner.

PS1. Completely confuse myself: if Story 1 and Story 2 are candidates on lie it means Story 3 is true... As Story 3 is true- it mean that you done some mistakes in your profile, that is not possible. Continue my considerations, I come to PS2:

PS2 Story 1 is probably more truthiness than Story 2, hence Story 2 is lie

Which story is false, it’s number 3.

1. Yes, I married at 20, my son has waited until 40, although he has lived with his partner for a while.

2. With regards to number two, one of my colleague’s grandfather was a life peer. When my colleague retired, his father had passed away and so he took over the peerage. Because I was a personal friend, I received the full personal treatment.

3. Appearing in a TV soap, this is false, although it was nearly true. When I retired as a sworn officer, I registered as an extra with a local TV company. I was selected to appear in an episode, however I was busy on the day and could not go.

Thanks for all your replies.

Role of a teacher in the classroom and in a Moodle course
by Helena Serdoura - Monday, 8 May 2017, 6:43 PM

The way communication happens in a classroom varies deeply in comparison to a MOODLE course; in the former it happens in real time - Synchronous communication - where as in a MOODLE course it occurs in delayed time - Asynchronous communication. And this makes all the difference.

Despite the above differences, in both situations, the Teacher has to act out as a planner, a classroom / moodle course manager, a facilitator, a monitor (by providing constant and immediate feedback), a language and content resource, and a rapport builder.

Engaging students.... and teacher
by Maria Luisa de Cristofaro - Wednesday, 10 May 2017, 5:37 PM

Thanks to Alina for the beautiful video about an America high School way of teaching and engaging students

In Italy are teachers those who come from a classrom to another, not the students that are in the same classrom for the whole day.

I don't know how may hours per week you are in a class, personally two hours.

In that time I have to teach chemistry, biology and earth science and often I feel burned out between things to do, things I wish to do, insufficient time. If you get a look on our programs you realize that it is a huge effort!

In my classes I promote peer edu, work group, research, a sort of inquiry in the tasks that I realize have more interested students, promoting their wishes to deepen the subject ( for instance ilnesses related with genetics or , earthquakes and so on). I let them bring their own devices even if there isn't a public line in the school and they connect by themselves.

I cannot forget the pre-requisites required , otherwise the results are too much superficial and not adeguate for their level. So I go up, and then down...

Even if most of the students are engaded, active in their learning and develop authentic skills, there are someone very passive and when I divide the class into groups, they passively follow the other students of the group. While writing about it, I'm realizing that may be these passive students are the ones that should became group leaders! I will try...

Re: Authentic Learning by means of Project Based Learning (PBL)
by Andreea-Katia Nechifor - Tuesday, 9 May 2017, 2:08 PM

Hello Helena,

I agree that PBL and TBLT are the most engaging and motivating forms of learning...and teaching.

I teach foreign language and these two approaches are considered to be the most desirable forms of teaching, however, they're not very popular among neither teacher nor students. It's probably because the concepts aren't yet very clearly defined or described.

Can you think of authentic learning that can be done in the classroom?
