Hi! Welcome to Intercultural Competence. We are pleased to have you on board!
In today’s globalized world, most people encounter members from other cultures, and for many of them, this happens on a regular basis, whether in social, political, or commercial contexts. It is therefore important for them, in all areas of their lives, to be able to interact successfully with people from cultures different from theirs. This ability is called intercultural competence.
Intercultural competence is needed for people from different cultures – with their different values, practices, and ways of communicating – to avoid conflict and misunderstanding. It requires them to be flexible in their thinking and to recognize that people are complex individuals. To see people in ways that are simple and not complex is to stereotype them.
We invite to to start working on the activities of Week 1 ahead if you please. Synchronous meetings will be held regularly on Saturdays 16/1, 23/1, 30/1, 6/2 and 13/2 at 8.00 am Eastern time. They will not exceed 1 hour, in case you want to register under other sessions. You can check the time at your location on this link: https://www.timeanddate.com/. Registration starts on January 3, 2021.
We look forward to making the most of this learning opportunity on EVO21.
