I would like to get to know more about teaching 21st century
skills in English. Ljuba
What do you currently know about such skills?
I know that skills such as communication, cross-cultural orientation, critical and analytical thinking, creativity, problem solving, IT literacy or soft skills such as collaboration are core when teaching in our modern world, so they should be also part of teaching English nowadays. Do you have practical ideas or would you share your experience how to integrate any of them in the teaching/learning process? I understand that the teachers should focus on the learners, for example let them talk about themselves, but I have had the same classes for 6 - 8 years and, in the end, there is hardly a new piece of information we can share about our lives when talking about our families etc., so when we discuss the same topic during the years, students get bored and it is very difficult to find new ideas how to enrich the same topic and keep it learner-focused.

How old are your students? There are so many things that you can do with them besides talking about their family. It all depends on their developmental ages. I work with everyone from 3-80. My college age students do projects which in order to complete they will have to master the various 21st C skills. You can do the same with younger students but modify the focus to be more appropriate.
